The World of Grandpa Don

My Father Wrote ...

This poem, undated but obviously composed after his cavalry days could be coupled with "The Return",  Some call it wanderlust or dub it the "seven year itch". After experiencing the exotic places visited in youth we get a yen for travel and something less humdrum than the constant duties of everyday life. Maybe it's the "Hobo" in us. Sometimes it is not easy to accept that what we are doing now is our life and as such is important to us. Maybe not exciting, ... but important.

Marilyn Copeland, using her imagination, found just the right graphics to show us the mind of our father as he dreams of the wide open spaces.

My Father Wrote ...

Slippin'
by Alden J. Copeland

Shortly after my introduction to my younger brother and sisters, the Copeland family, in the fall of 2006, my sister Marilyn Copeland sent a copy of "The Return". It was a poem written by our Father. At Christmas of 2007 Marylyn assembled a book of his compositions adding graphics as shown here. .

They have given me an insight into the father I never knew and I share some of them on these pages.
