Pop-Up Ads - !! GONE !!

I was tired of going to a web site and having an ad, or sometimes several ads pop up on my screen, obscuring the page I wanted to see. Or, sometimes, when I closed my browser, there were one or more "Pop-Under" ads waiting there for me. The worst part is that some of them take you to an unwanted web site when you try to close them.

I recently upgraded my OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. That is the program that I use to convert the scanned pictures of text into editable text to use on my web pages. A bonus program that they sent along with it is called "iClean" by Aladdin Systems. It has several functions but the one I love is an option called "Close Popups".

With the "close popup" selected, when you open a web page that normally would produce a pop-up ad, it very briefly flashes on the screen and then is GONE! I LOVE IT! No mess, no bother, you just don't see it because it's not there. And, pop-under ads are gone too.

They don't explain how it works but I soon discovered the secrete. Pop-up ads open a new window of your browser. This program simply only allows one instance of your browser to be open a any one time. I discovered this when I went to open a thumbnail picture on my own web page. It flashed on and then was gone! iClean was working! A thumbnail works just like a pop-up ad. It opens the full size photo in a separate window.

But, ... NO PREBLEMO! They also give you a tool to defeat their own program. When you know that you are going to do something which will open a new instance of your browser, just press the SHIFT or CTRL key before doing it and it will open. I often have two browser windows open when viewing thumbnails, or opening second web sites in a "separate window". Pressing that little key is worth the effort when you are totally free of annoying pop-up ads.

Note: This Pop-Up killer has been replaced (twice) and I am now using Norton for this function.
