VIRUS WARNING!

Have you received this in an email from a friend?

In these days we have more than enough real threats to our safety and peace of mind without the added stress of false threats. Often, in computer virus terminology, this is called a HOAX. Occasionally I receive an email from a friend who is warning of a virus. The friend is forwarding the message which was sent to many other well meaning people. Usually, it is a HOAX.

Trend Micro, a trusted source of Anti-Virus software, has a web page describing these hoaxes as well as information regarding real problems. When I get an email from a friend, warning of a virus or worm, the first thing I do is check the Trend Micro "Hoax" page. Usually, I can assure my friend that there is no reason to be alarmed.

Before sending warnings to everyone you know, you can check them out at ... http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/hoaxes/hoax.asp
or ... Symantec Security Response - Hoax Page
or ... Vmyths.com- Truth About Computer Virus Myths & Hoaxes

Better still, use a good Anti-Virus software program and your mind will be at ease.

BUT, ... To my friends who send these to me ...
If you do not have time to check them out or if you have lost this information, Just don't send it. Most people ... the smart ones ... simply don't need it.
