There was a full page ad in the paper that really caught my eye. It started with:
Teen sex is okay.
Parents are stupid.
Violence doesn't hurt.
Profanity is cool.
Morality doesn't mater.
... Just a few of
the lessons television
is teaching our children.
The ad asks for support of the PARENTS TELEVISION COUNCIL in their efforts to convince advertisers to withdraw their advertising dollars from programming which is damaging to our children.
I will support them. One way I will do this is by providing a link to their web site. Parents Television Council The PTC web site is a great resource for responsible parents.
I think that there is more than danger to our children. I think that "Adult" programs are misnamed. They are not aimed at mature minds which seek substance, enlightenment and wholesome entertainment. They are, in fact, aimed at the immature mind of those seeking instant gratification and shallow diversion. This "immature" programming seeks to enforce materialistic attitudes and the need to justify an attitude of selfishness, greed and power.
I would hope that we would think about that when we decide what to watch and when we think about purchasing the products of the sponsors.
Internet, Magazines, Movies, TV, & BooksOur entertainment and It's effect on our society. I have long been
troubled by the trend of the entertainment media to disregard high moral
values and to promote instant gratification and selfish behavior as the
norm. |
